Few works suggested dogs trained smell urine could recognize lung, bladder, or breast cancer with various success rates, but no date are available diagnostic setting renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In study, we investigated urinary VOCs profiling discriminating patients established RCC from healthy controls. METHODS: This prospective study included 2 groups: 115 controls (HC) 98 cases. samples were collected twice then sampled a commercially nose (Cyranose C320 – 32 sensors). Data reduced set principal components capturing largest amount variance original sensors (Principal [PCA]). Univariate was used select best be entered into linear Canonical Discriminant Analysis (CDA) classify cases categorical partition. We “leave-one-out method” calculate Cross Validated Accuracy (CVA), an estimate accuracy predictive model clinical practice. For each case probability positive calculated on basis CDA function. Discrimination built evaluated means receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curves. RESULTS: Based PCA, 83/98 99/115 correctly identified eNose arms, respectively. Results obtained demonstrated correct classification 85.4% (p <0.001). At ROC discrimination between 0.907. Repeated using second measure sample provided comparable findings (CVA 85.1% ROC-curve 0.89). Sensitivity specificity 84.7% 86.1, respectively; likelihood ratio (+LR) negative (-LR) 6.09 0.18, CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary pilot highlights for future research eNose. Ease use, low costs non-invasive nature makes test biomarker different settings, follow-up. Multicenter phase II study of sunitinib in patients with non-clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
BACKGROUND Retrospective and molecular biologic data suggest that sunitinib may be effective in patients with non-clear cell renal cell carcinoma (nccRCC). PATIENTS AND METHODS Eligibility criteria included advanced nccRCC except for collecting duct carcinoma and sarcomatoid carcinoma without identifiable renal cell carcinoma subtypes. Patients were treated with 50 mg/day oral sunitinib for 4...
متن کاملSarcomatoid Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma with Heterologous Component
Clear cellrenal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common malignant renal tumor in adults, while chromophobe RCC (CRCC) is the third most common. Any subtypes of RCC can undergo sarcomatoid differentiation, but heterologous differentiation in sarcomatoid area is very rare in RCC. Here a61-year male is presented with hematuria and palpable mass. Clinicoradiologically, RCC was considered and left r...
متن کاملSorafenib for Older Patients With Renal Cell Carcinoma: Subset Analysis From a Randomized Trial
BACKGROUND The perception that older cancer patients may be at higher risk than younger patients of toxic effects from cancer therapy but may obtain less clinical benefit from it may be based on the underrepresentation of older patients in clinical trials and the known toxic effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy. It is not known how older patients respond to targeted therapy. METHODS This retrosp...
متن کاملMetastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma to the Humerus Bone: A Report of Two Cases
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is an aggressive malignancy which can metastasize to the bone. Long bones or the small bones of the limbs could be rarely the destinations for metastatic RCCs. We report two cases of metastatic RCC to the humerus bone with the initial presentation of pathological fracture. The pathologists must be aware of metastatic RCC to the arm and consider it in the differential ...
